Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic Touch was a therapy developed by Dora Kunz and Dolores Krieger, PH.D., R.N. in 1970s. It is a way of healing that does not involve direct contact or touch. It helps the body to regain control, restart the natural healing process and rebalance hormones. For people practicing this therapy, it not merely movement and response, it becomes a way of life. It brings people to greater understanding of the worlds and helps in better contact with the outer world.

There are some basic assumptions of this therapy:

• Homo sapiens are energy systems, though complex and open.

• When a person is healthy, the energy freely flows in a balanced and symmetrical way.

• Homo sapiens change. Hence their energy is able to transform.

• Healing is a process of making energy flow in order to balance the body and mindset.

These basic assumptions reflect hoe our energy can be broken by an injury, emotional setback or operations. Balance can only be regained only when the energy field under attack is exposed to the healing therapy.

Therapeutic Touch does not diagnose any kind of diseases. It is not in any way there to replace medical healing, it’s just a faith that works and relieves if you believe in it. Once people start this therapy, it gives a feel good sensation.

A person who has undergone proper healing process can assess their blocking points. Then they can work on relaxing these areas. To complete one cycle they need to direct the universal energy on the areas damaged badly and trying to reconnect it with the whole system.

What is Universal energy?

Universal energy is a natural energy which continuously flows in its purest form in healthy organisms. The same concept is used in healing models such as acupuncture and Ayurvedic healing process. The focus lies on care and compassion in this form of healing. A lot of focus is laid on the environment and the conditions, sounds and visuals the patient is exposed to. All this helps in directing the universal energy in the desired path.

Benefits:

There are innumerous benefits of Therapeutic Touch. Many researchers have documented this. This healing model is adopted by many doctors and patients. There are some listed examples and specific conditions where TT has benefited many people:

• Improvement in immune system of premature babies, AIDS affected people and people suffering from environmental illness

• Relief from pain in arthritis and injuries from burns

• Relief in fractures and improvement in healing

• Relaxation in birthing, Alzheimer and fluctuation in blood pressure

• Improvement in mental health and drug rehabilitation

This healing process was taught to graduate nurses in 1972. Since then this therapy is employed in many Canadian hospitals. It is increasing as a part of nursing education. A lot of research has been done on this subject and has met international acceptance in many countries. It is clear in the modern world that This therapy is practiced worldwide and is included in a variety of professional clinics.
