Recycling Facts

Recycling facts are always a matter of attraction to many. Recycling is the process of turning useful parts of a waste product into a new one.

It is the best way to reduce waste and help our environment. A study shows that each person creates around 4.7 pounds of waster every day. By recycling, we can save on the consumption of resources, energy and space used in landfills.

More than 60% of things that we throw away can be recycled. Plastic plays a crucial role in our lives. Containers, furniture, toys, cups and most of the products that we use on a daily basis are made of plastic. Hence, it is essential to make an effort to recycle plastic. Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour and only 27% of them are recycled.

Recycling Facts
Recycling a plastic bottle not only saves space in the landfill but it also saves our environment. It can take 500 years for plastic to decompose. Recycling plastic can save our planet from the emission of producing new bottles and oil used to produce that bottle. Recycling a ton of plastic can save the energy that can be used by two persons in a year and the amount of water used by a person for two months. Recycling plastic can conserve twice the energy it needs to burn it.

In addition to plastic, glass, aluminum and paper are the most common products that are recycled now. If a glass bottle is recycled one can save electricity that is enough to light a 100 watt bulb for four hours. A glass bottle may take many years to break down. Recycling glass can help save 25 to 30% of the energy required to make it.

Every ton of paper that is recycled can help save the energy, which is equal to 185 gallons of gasoline. Every year, 67,000,000 tons of paper is being used in the US. Nearly 500,000 trees are cut to produce the newspapers read by the Americans each Sunday. However, only 30% of newspapers are recycled. Recycling one ton of paper can save the life of 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water and three cubic yards of space in landfill.

Recycling one ton of aluminum cans can save 1,665 gallons of gasoline. It can save energy enough to run a 100 watt bulb for 20 hours. Recycling 125 aluminum cans helps save energy that is sufficient to power one home for one day. Recycling facts are not only interesting, but they also increase awareness about the needs for finding ways to recycle waste products.
