Pain Management Techniques

Some natural pain management techniques could be helpful, if you are in discomfort or pain of any type on a regular basis, or even just occasionally. Whether you use these pain techniques in conjunction with traditional medicine or try some natural techniques by themselves, the outcome may be a pleasant surprise.

Chronic Pain Management and Pain Stress Management

Chronic stress can be associated with chronic pain. Often, we subconsciously tense certain muscles as we undergo mental stressors. Some people are prone to grinding their teeth; others manifest excess stress through lesions on their skin. Stress can aggravate other problems, and underlying problems can make stress worse – it is a never ending cycle that can leave you feeling terrible.

Managing chronic stress is part of natural pain management. Often, when stress is reduced or eliminated, chronic pain is reduced or eliminated as well.

There are many methods for reducing pain naturally – chronic pain management techniques and pain stress management go hand in hand. Some natural pain management techniques are:

Get A Good Night’s Sleep – Sleep is nature’s way of restoring the body, mind, and spirit. If you suffer from stress and chronic pain, make restful sleep a priority. Set sleep before other things – TV for instance. Eat sensible meals a few hours before bedtime, use herbal remedies if you need help falling asleep, and make your bedroom a peaceful oasis where you can truly relax.

Your Bed Makes A Difference – If you suffer from chronic pain, whether it is stress related, injury related, or a result of a health condition, be sure that your bed is comfortable. A good mattress, such as a Tempur-Pedic or Sleep Number bed will cradle and support your body effectively. Use soft sheets (bamboo is a good green choice) and keep your bedroom quiet. Rest restores the body.

Support Your Neck – Be sure that you use the right kind of pillows on your bed. Different pillows are available for people who sleep in different positions. Pillows can help your body to relax fully so that you get the sleep you need to recover properly. Tempur-Pedic pillows, pillows made from buckwheat hulls, and other special pillows can be very simple chronic pain management devices.

Move Your Body – Sitting in a chair all day, every day, is stressful to the body’s systems. Our bodies are designed to move, so be sure that you stretch periodically, rest your eyes and focus away from your computer screen as often as possible in order to prevent eye fatigue. If you have sciatica, there are stretches that you can do which will make you feel better very quickly. Remember to be sure that you use good posture, too.

Eat Right – Feeding your body properly should be a priority, whether you are sick, stressed out, or simply busy. When we give our bodies proper nutrition, they work better. Avoid drinking too much alcohol, and be sure to get enough water. Water lubricates the joints and helps to keep your brain hydrated. If you suffer from frequent stress headaches, drinking water regularly may help to alleviate the pain.
