Ozone Air Purifier – Effective and Safe

There are many types of air purifiers available to consumers; an ozone air purifier is one of the most exciting options available for the reason that uses ozone to clean the air.It might seem like science fiction, but the fact is, ozone really does a good job of purifying air and improving home environments.

About Ozone

Everyone has heard of the Ozone Layer – that protective mantle that is such an important part of the Earth’s atmosphere. What many people may not be aware of is that ozone is used in many applications that call for purification of contaminated surfaces, air, and water.

Ozone is a colorless gas (O3). When it is used in air purification applications, it is produced by an electric discharge in oxygen. Ozone is produced by lightning in nature, and the clean smell that occurs in a thunderstorm is partially due to the ozone that is produced. It is also a byproduct of ultraviolet radiation in oxygen.

Ozone is highly reactive, and has incredible oxidation capacities; when it comes into contact with impurities such as mold or other allergens, it rapidly oxidizes their molecular structures causing them to break down and be effectively destroyed.

Common Misconceptions about Ozone

If you have ever heard about “Ozone Alerts” that occur in highly polluted areas and are confused as to how something that can cause physical damage can also purify the air, there is a good reason.

Ozone alerts are issued in polluted areas. The high concentration of ozone that is being released in these areas comes from the sun’s rays as they penetrate the contaminated oxygen that is present in polluted air. This type of ozone is problematic because it is associated with high hydrocarbon levels. It is nothing like the type of ozone that is released by ozone purifying machines, and has a much higher concentration.

The truth is that ozone is beneficial at low levels; and ozone air purifiers are designed to exacting standards that meet Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety requirements.

Benefits of Using Ozone Air Purifiers

Since ozone air-purifying devices work very quickly to neutralize chemicals and allergens, they can be extremely effective at combating indoor air pollution and returning air quality to desirable levels. Some of the capabilities of ozone air purifiers are:

Dust And Dander Reduction – Dust and dander particles are reduced; thereby rendering air more breathable.

Mold Particles Can Be Eliminated – Airborne mold particles can be eliminated; in addition, studies have shown that the use of the specific type of purifier effectively reduces the ability of mold to grow on surfaces even in conditions that would normally encourage mold and mildew to proliferate.

Eliminate Odors – While other types of air purifiers make air more breathable, these air purifiers take their task one step further and actually remove odors from the air. Very small devices are useful in areas where heavy odors tend to accumulate – they are so effective that they are commonly used in mortuaries and hide tanneries, where nauseating odors would otherwise incapacitate workers.

Whether you need a small purifier for a bathroom or cat litter area, or a whole house solution, ozone purifiers may be exactly what you need to make your home a better place to live.
