Organic Gardening Tips

What are some of the most valuable organic gardening tips? Actually, some of the most common tips come with a bit of common sense.

For example, never use chemicals. End of story! People have existed for centuries without the need for toxic compounds that end up in their food and in their drinking water. Instead of insecticides and herbicides, it is just as easy to use the fingers to pull large bugs from leaves and stems, and simple to rely on a gentle solutions of soapy water (organic soap of course!) to wash the smallest insects away.

Of course, the best collection of organic gardening tips doesn't begin with an admonition against chemicals, but instead proposes that you will have more luck when you ensure that your soil is the healthiest possible. This is because pest management is not often a major issue for those who have healthy plants growing in strong and healthy soil.

Even when some pests do arrive, most plants living in healthy conditions will be able to survive and ward off disease much easier than plants in mediocre soil. If things do get out of hand, THEN you can break out the soapy water and rinse away those pests.

Organic Gardening

How do you get that great soil? Most lists of organic gardening tips constantly emphasize the need for composting. From creating a good compost pile system to the application of the right compost to the different parts of the garden, it is clear that healthy and strong soil comes from the use of the natural fertilization that only a good compost will provide.

Of course, the compost has to be well suited to the plants. For instance, most of the lists of organic gardening tips will tell you that acid loving plants should be mulched differently from non-acidic plants and trees.

For instance, using a layer of pine needles around the base of each acid loving plant during the fall months tends to ensure that the plant remains healthy and vibrant throughout the next season.

Organic Gardening
The best organic gardening tactics begin with the choice to eliminate any and all chemicals in the garden. The soil is no place for toxins, and this is true whether you are growing flowers for your house or food for your table.

It is also important to remember that organic gardeners are preventing toxic runoff from ruining the ground water and offsetting the natural order of things.
