Magnolia Tree Information

Beauty as well as fragrance is the two words which are related to Magnolia tree as well as shrubs. There are almost 210 different varieties in the genus of Magnolia. The species of Magnolia is scattered in some parts of West Indies, Americas as well as in Southeast Asia and East Asia. The genus name Magnolia was given after the name of French botanist Pierre Magnol.

Magnolia species are much older than bees. Thus pollination of the Magnolia flowers were done by beetles. This is one of the reasons why the carpals of the plants of magnolia are tough.

The Magnolia flowers are strong as well as thick. The flowers are not like the modern flowers and the corresponding scientific name of the part of the flower is tepal.

The different varieties of this tree are either deciduous or evergreen trees which belong to the plant family known as Magnoliaceae. Most of the varieties of this tree mostly bloom in the season of spring with large flowers that are white in color. There are different types of this tree found like:

Magnolia Tree
• Yulan Magnolia

• Large Flowered Magnolia

• Cucumber tree

• Kobus Magnolia

• Star Magnolia

The height of this tree is approximately 60 to 80 feet and it looks like a beautiful pyramidal crown. The shape of the seeds of the tree looks like a kidney and it is contained in the red brown cone shape fruits. These plants are tough to grow as it faces some problems. Gardener’s biggest concern regarding the plant is losing blossoms in the season of spring due to frost. This can be prevented if the plants are planted in the locations which are shield from the late spring frost.

Magnolias are mostly grown by the gardeners as specimen plants. If the space is large they grow huge in a group. In the early 1038C.E in China magnolia officinalis were been used medicinally. It is been used to prevent asthma as well as allergic reactions. Most of the people plant star magnolia as well as saucer magnolia in their gardens.

Most people love to plant these trees in their gardens because of many reasons. It is popular among people due to its flowers which can be used to decorate your house. Magnolia tree can be easily planted in your gardens and its height is not at all a problem because it is shorter than most of the bigger trees.
