Lemongrass Oil

The sweet and lemony smelling Lemongrass oil is very refreshing oil and is a great tonic for your mind, body and spirit. The fast growing lemongrass grows around 3 feet tall and has thin blades as leaves. This plant originates from India, and grows as a wild plant there.

The oil is extracted from either fresh or partially dried leaves via steam distillation. It is one of the important components of Ayurvedic medicines as it helps in curing fevers and also in treating infectious illnesses. This essential oil is not only very refreshing but is also used for its medicinal properties.

On burning Lemongrass oil, an inviting, clean and clear aroma is imparted which is extremely relaxing and calming to the body as well as mind. The essential oil is mainly used to relieve stress and anxiety. It is also used as an effective anti-depressant, diuretic, a tonic, sedative, deodorant, stimulant etc.

It is also used to cool the body during fevers, as its use causes perspiration hence cooling the body. The anti-inflammatory and sedative properties cure muscle spasms and result in regeneration of soft tissues. In China, The oil is used to cure stomach aches and cramps and also headaches.

Lemongrass Oil
Apart from being used for its medicinal properties, it is also used in soaps, perfumes, detergents and cosmetics. It also used to adulterate other expensive oils, especially Mellisa oil. Lemongrass is used as a flavoring in many culinary dishes and also in drinks. Tea prepared by brewing Lemongrass is also very famous as its aroma is very refreshing, making you feel relaxed.

Far East, Thai, Indian and Vietnamese cuisines make use of it in many of its recipes. This plant is even used to isolate the chemical component called citral. Lemon grass oil is also a natural insect repellent and is hence used as a mosquito repellent. You may also use it on your pets to ward off fleas and ticks, as it is completely natural.

Though it is natural and non-toxic, it can pose a problem and cause skin sensitivity to those with sensitive skin or with damaged skin and also for those suffering from allergies, hence this oil should be used carefully and avoid using it on young children. As with other essential oils, care should be taken that the oil does not go in the eyes and hands are washed before and after its use.
