Infusion

Infusion can be defined as the mixture of several steeping plants with certain spices along with flavors in oil or water. It is quite similar to a decoction.

However it is used with more volatile herbs that can readily dissolve in water. Active ingredients can be released easily in oil. Boiling water that is of appropriate temperature is poured on this herb and is allowed to sleep a while. The period of time for which the herbs are kept in the water is depended on the purpose for which the liquid is being prepared.

It is normally between 15 to 30 minutes or till the time the mixture cools down. This will create a wonderful beverage. If health benefit is priority then the total time meant for perfect herbal potency is four hours. The mixture is then bottled and refrigerated for using in the future.

The amount of herb, oil or water can change depending on the nature of the herb and the required strength of the infusion. One ounce of a herb in one pint of a liquid is a very common proportion. Spices and herbs are some of the best healers that are present in the nature.

These things are being used as medicine from long time. Herbal drinks can be easily made at home by using various herbs and spices. Dried herbs or spices can be used if you do not get fresh herbs. The dried herbs can be stored in containers for using in the future.

Making herbal tea with just boiled water is the best idea. The amount of the herbs or the spices should be more if the beverage is being prepared in a teapot. If you are using fresh herbs then the amount should be double or the leaves can be chopped into pieces and mixed into water.

For the herbal drink you can either use one variety of herb or spice or you can go for a mixture of spices and herbs. Water that is boiled recently should be poured on the chosen herbs or spices and the tea should be infused for 5 to 10 minutes and then the mixture must be strained. For sweetening the drink honey or lemon can be added.

You can drink herbal tea cold. This is very refreshing during hot weather and is helpful for a medical condition that requires cooling. So now you can prepare a herbal beverage for yourself.
