This herb is commercially used to a very large extent in the alcoholic beverage beer. Julmust is also another beverage where the herb is used. The cultivation of this herb goes back in history to the year of 736. It took place in the region of Hallertau in Germany. The herb was first used in the year 1079 for brewing by the Germans.
It was only until the 13th century that this herb was used for making beer. Slowly even the British started importing beer from Holland to their own country in the year 1400. In the year 1519 this herb was banned because it was considered to be a wicked weed. After a few years this herb was again grown in England.
