Herbal Remedies For Anxiety

Herbal remedies for anxiety abound, for everything from upset stomachs to improved sleep. Organic herbs for stress relief are becoming more popular as people try to find healthy ways to reduce the negative impact that too much stress has on their lives.
Since early human times, people have used natural remedies; as the practice of medicine as we know it today progressed, natural herbs were pushed aside in favor of the latest technology. Medical professionals are rediscovering herbal remedies. When paired with great technology such as diffusers, herbal remedies can be nearly miraculous in helping to alleviate conditions like fatigue and stress.

What Kind of Herbal Remedies Work Best for Stress Relief

There are many kinds of stress, but they all have one thing in common; they tax the body’s nervous and immune system and can contribute to debilitating illnesses if not managed properly.

Herbal remedies for anxiety can help people to manage stress effectively, and when combined with other relaxation techniques and healthy lifestyle changes, they can make a world of difference. Some popular herbal remedies are:

Kava Kava – Kava Kava has been used by Pacific Islanders for its relaxing, slightly euphoric effects. It is non-narcotic, and is available in many forms. Kava Kava is often an ingredient in herbal stress relief compounds.

Chamomile – Chamomile is a relaxing herb that is commonly found in teas that are specially formulated to induce relaxation. People who are allergic to ragweed may find chamomile irritating, and should opt for a different herbal stress relief remedy.

Herbal Remedies For Anxiety
Passion Flower – Passion flower has a mild sedative effect and is often used in conjunction with other herbs. It is commonly taken in tea although other forms are available.

Valerian – Valerian promotes restful sleep and is a wonderful natural alternative to over-the-counter or prescription sleep aids. Proper sleep is important if you are trying to combat stress and fatigue.

Hops – Hops promotes relaxation and is available in different concentrations. It is often combined with other herbs, and is frequently found in preparations that also contain valerian.

Lavender – The scent of lavender can help reduce stress instantly. Pure lavender essential oil can be expensive, but a little goes a long way. If you want to use lavender to help with relaxation, be sure that you are using real lavender and not artificial scent. You can use lavender in a bath, or you can get a lavender pillow to help you feel relaxed.

No matter what kind of herbal preparation you decide to try for stress, be sure that you take the recommended dosage, and if you are taking any prescription medications be sure to check with your doctor to be sure that negative interactions will not occur. Herbs are powerful medicine, so they must be used correctly.

Often, the very act of coming home, lighting an aromatherapy candle, slipping into something comfortable, and taking a bath with a nice cup of tea in hand before bedtime can help you to feel better. If you are stressed out, remember that herbs will help, but be sure to find the source of your stress and try to alleviate it, too!
