Calamine

Calamine is a mixture of ferric oxide and zinc oxide. It is one of the key ingredients of this lotion. It is widely used on the skin to treat a variety of skin ailments. Its main use is as an anti itching agent.

It is available in the form of a lotion that needs to be applied on the affected area with the help of a cotton swab. It is also widely used to treat other conditions in which the skin might be affected such as chicken pox as well as insect bites. Unlike most other creams that are not to be applied on an open wound, this magic ingredient can be applied to open wounds also and it acts as a very effective antiseptic.

So whether your have acne or a blister, calamine can soothe the affected area and prevent infection as well.

It is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) as a skin protectant. It is available over the counter. This means that you need not have a doctor’s prescription to buy the lotion. The ingredient is by itself pink in colour and leaves a pink patch on the skin when applied. It can however be washed off with water and hence does not leave a permanent stain on the skin. The lotion by itself needs to be applied at least twice a day on the affected area.

Calamine
It is known for its wonderful effect in treating acne as well. It also helps to get rid of skin blemishes and other dark spots on the skin. The lotion is widely used as a sun screen as well.

No side effects of the lotion are reported. However a few people may be allergic to the ingredient. Hence a patch test is recommended before using the lotion on open wounds and cuts. This miraculous ingredient has helped many people get rid of numerous skin problems as well as infections. Off late its most widespread use is in treating the symptoms that is associated with poison ivy. Its properties are many. You can use it as an anti itching agent, an antiseptic, as a sunscreen or as an astringent. Since the ingredient is so easily available, you can be sure of trying the remedy at home first rather than rushing off to the skin doctor at the first appearance of a blister or even a pimple.
