Botanicals

A drug, a herb or a medical preparation which is derived from plants is known as botanicals. Dried or fresh plants used as herbs too come under this category. These are also found in prescription drugs or in over the counter drugs either as their original part plant or maybe in a chemical form.

Many of them are also used in dietary supplements. You may also find these substances in food as flavoring or to add color and fragrance such as in baked food, dairy products and in some beverages. Hence they are an important part of our daily life.

Skincare herbs consist of essential oils and concentrated fragrances and other oils such as olive oil, Shea butter and grape seed oil which are very beneficial to the skin as they contain anti oxidants which is necessary for the skin to look fresh and hydrated. Essential oils and concentrated fragrances do not benefit the skin accept for soothing the senses via aroma therapy, whereas the other herbal oils help to make the skin look fresh and young. By keeping the skins moisture levels balanced. Many of them also act as anti aging agents and are helpful in preventing wrinkles. Avocado extract is very beneficial in increasing the skins collagen levels hence preventing wrinkles.
Botanicals
Scientists recommend the use of plant based oils, vitamins, natural proteins and emollients for their restorative properties which support healthy functioning of the skin cells. This proves that use of these skincare ingredients provides firm, elastic and even-toned skin which has a natural glow.

Common food-botanicals include rosemary, thyme, clove, nutmeg, pepper etc. which are extracted in water or any other organic solvent and its fragrance is then used for fragrance, flavoring etc. The extract can be also used for medicinal purpose.

Presently there has been a great interest in the use of these herbs in medicines, food etc. but on research it is understood that using natural herbs is not proving to be safe, hence health officials are being skeptic about the use of these herbs in food preparations as its misuse can cause adverse effects on the human health.

They are nothing but a part of plant or plant extract or any studies related to botany. This concept has become more popular today with everyone opting for botanical substances in food, cosmetics, medicines etc. Organic living has become a new concept that has become popular amongst the masses.
