Benefits Of Ginkgo Biloba

There are plenty benefits of ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo is one of the oldest living fossils. It is nearly 200 million years old. This herb belongs to the family of Ginkgoaceae. The genus and specie of this herb is biloba L.

It is a large deciduous tree with erect trunk. The branches of this tree form a dense crown. The bark is cracked and gray in color. Leaves are yellowish green and fan shaped. The male and female flowers look totally different. The male flower is yellow in color and hangs in pendulous catkins while female flower is solitary, round and on long stalks. The fruits of this tree smell nasty when they are ripe.

Other names for this herb are Buddha’s fingernail, Duck foot, flying moth leaf and Maidenhair tree.

This herb has been in use in China only from the fifteenth century. This tree is mostly found in China, South Carolina and France.

The leaves and seeds of this tree are useful in many ways. Hwere are some benefits of Gingko Biloba:

• The leaves are used for improving the function of the brain.

• This herb is used internally to treat allergic inflammatory responses, senile dementia, and asthma.

• Cerebrovascular insufficiencies symptoms can be reduced using the leaf extract.

• Disturbed concentration, dementia, memory loss, mood swings, dizziness can be treated well with the help of this herb.

• Studies show that the extract is useful in treating tinnitus.

• Irregular heartbeat can be rectified by using the leaves.

• Cough with thick phlegm can be cured with the seeds.

• This is one of the best medicines for urinary incontinence.

• It improves microcirculation of blood which in turn increases blood flow to the genitals. The action of the endothelium is stimulated by these herbs which will be effective in treating erectile dysfunction.

• This herb is effective in treating asthmatic disorder.

• It is a useful medicine to make lung and kidney work properly.

• The leaf tea can be applied externally to treat sores of the skin.

• It also helps in removing freckles.

The seeds of this tree can be collected and roasted, so that they can be used in soups, salads, stews and stir fries. Seeds are used in obtaining edible oil.

Precautions need to be taken while using this herb as large amount of this herb may result in headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and dermatitis. Oral consumption of this herb may result in blood thinning process.
