Angelica Plant The Guardian Angel Herb
Angelica plant is another herb with medicinal properties. Today all have become health conscious and turning to herbal remedies. Herb is a small plant, which gains its significance due to its medicinal properties apart from its food value. Herbs are used in cooking for its flavor as well. The concept of Ayurveda has developed from the various uses of herbs. These herbs are many and are generally grouped into medicinal ornamental and herbs used for cooking.
This herb may be called by different names, which are, Angelica atropurpurea, Angelica archangelica, Alexanders, American Dong Qui, Archangel, Purple stem and Masterwort. According to some legend, this herb was released in a dream by an angel to cure a plague. The roots are believed to ward off evil spirits from the house.
This ornamentel, aromatic and short-lived perennial herb is a native to Eastern North America. It is found from Newfoundland to Minnesota, south of Delaware, Tennessee, Illinois and Iowa. It can be spotted in thickets, moist woodlands, shady roadsides and stream banks. It is smooth with purple hollow stem with dark green leaves. The flattened stalks with elongated bowls, holds water in it. They bloom in July and bear oblong fruits. The medicinal properties of this herb mainly form the valeric acid, angelicin, safrole, linoleic acid, and angelic acid. Their roots contain vitamin B12, zinc, potassium, thiamin, sucrose, magnesium, iron, riboflavin, glucose and a few trace minerals. Its essential oil increases urination & removes toxins.

It is very easy to grow this herb seed. They are mostly planted the moment they are gathered. But it can also be kept in the freezer. It requires a moist and fertile soil with some little shade. A few wild forms of this herb can grow in sun as well. The life of this herb may be about two years if allowed to seed.
